Welcome to Steve’s Blog

April 13th, 2008

All of a sudden I have users! Woohoo! Folks, I appreciate people coming here and using what I have made available. I hadn’t originally planned on this, it kinda just happened. I know a few folks drifted over here from another blog site and have had problems with the admin over there. Just a few quick reminders. Not everyone reading this website is from Olympia, or uses Olyblog. Please no attacks or charges against Olyblog admin, or admin of other sites for that matter. This is not the place for that, I really need this website to be open to anyone on the net wandering by.

While the current status of most users allows them to put original content anywhere on this website, I really need a little cooperation on one issue. The front welcome page, the section “My Blog” and the “Vermin of the Week” section are mine. I don’t think the software will allow me to limit other users putting content on certain pages. I am more than happy to host any content you would like to put up that falls within the minimal rules I put up on the forum page, just please put it in either the local section, guns, or forum. Wordpress tools are a bit confusing, so I’m not really tripping on this one.

Also, when quoting an article from another source, please just quote the first paragraph or two, provide a link back to the original source, and publicly attribute where the article came from. Anything else may be copyright infringement. If you care to include your opinion on the subject matter, go right ahead. I appreciate cooperation on this matter.

Like I’ve said elsewhere, very few rules. PG language, no direct attacks, racial slurs, attacks on religion, or anti gun articles. If something annoys me enough to take it down, I will let you know why. I won’t waste my time emailing folks if I have to edit language. If you use a four letter word, and I change it to something else, don’t stress it.

These are how things are, after all this is “Steve’s Blog” :-) So pull up a keyboard, and make yourself at home. The rules are few and far between and pretty open for folks. Thanks for your cooperation!

Thanks, glad you like the design. It was done by the good folks at TYZ Design, who are linked up at the bottom of the page and under external links. The rest of the page, the backend was done by ZX Development, also linked up like TYZ….

The blog looks good, and it may be my new home. Given what has happened on Olyblog, I don’t have much stomach to hang out over there as much.

Hey, maybe you should kick a liberal off of this blog!!! :-)

QUESTION: Will there be an area for us to post our own blogs? I’m not sure where to post things like this:

    The Associated Press
SEATTLE — University of Washington student Brian Yip is wearing an empty handgun holster on the campus in Seattle.

He has a concealed gun license, but UW rules prevent him from carrying a gun.
Yip is head of a chapter of “Students for Concealed Carry on Campus,” a movement that sprang up after the Virginia Tech shootings.

Members are wearing holsters this week to make the point that armed students could minimize or eliminate shooting rampages.
A university spokesman, Norm Arkans, says the long-standing policy against guns is aimed at keeping the campus safe.

I, for one, don’t blame them and if I were a student there, I’d feel safer knowing some were carrying guns. I’d hopefully stand a better chance of survival knowing someone could stop the shooter before they took as many lives as shooters in the past have. These OC’ers could notify the college and keep a copy of the permit on file and be allowed to carry.

As I said in the comments section on The Olympian:

Why couldn’t those students who have permits register them in the schools records and be allowed to carry?

How many students are currently carrying and nobody knows? Are they stable? We’ll never really know.

Do you realize there are Air Marshall’s on airplanes who have guns and you don’t know who or where they are?

It’s like pot and half the other stupid things currently illegal. Make it illegal and everybody does it. Make it legal and nobody will care.

Personally, if I were a student, I would feel safer knowing somebody was carrying and able to save my life against someone determined to take it along with several others. Maybe if students with OC permits were allowed to carry, more students would be alive today because an OCing student was able to stop the shooter before their rampage got out of hand.

I want the same protection in class that I have in the air. Give students who want the same training the Marshals get the opportunity to take that class and teach them proper gun skills and let them carry once they’ve registered their permits and certificates with the school.
