My Mosin Nagant 91/30

April 16th, 2008

These fine rifles don’t even need any introduction IMHO.  Another fine product of Mother Russia.  Or as a friend of mine puts it “Is Mosin, is shoot da?”  I call this particular weapon “Ma Bell” as she is my “reach out and touch somebody” rifle :-)

Brief rundown, built in 1943 at the Izhevsk arsenal, and displays typical wartime rough machining.  All serial numbers match, although I believe the magazine floorplate is force matched.  This is my second 91/30.  My first was a 1942 Tula with even rougher machining that had not been overhauled after The Great Patriotic War.  I wish I still had that one too, it was classy and I had a lot of fun with it.  Ma Bell is a keeper though, very accurate and simple.  I love Russian weapons, they are simple and WORK.  (Well except the Nagant revolver but that is a Belgian design, although the Mosin Nagant is half Belgian, Oh well.)

Self-inflicted shotgun blast not life-threatening

Yakima Herald-Republic

A 20-year-old man shot himself in the groin early Sunday while trying to hide a shotgun down his pants, city police said.

Full story here.

Gotta wonder about that one…  takes some skill to shoot yourself in this fashion with BOTH barrels of a double barrel shotgun…  Hopefully bozo the clown here won’t be passing on his flawed genetic material to anyone else.

This pretty much sums things up for me.

Armed Student stops terrorist

This happened in Jerusalem…

A gun rights organization in the United States is accusing the media of trying to conceal the fact that a gunman who attacked students at Jerusalem’s Mercaz Harav seminary was stopped by an armed student at the school.

Authorities report that Ytizhak Dadon, 40, was a “private citizen who had a gun license and was able to shoot the gunman with his pistol,” according to a statement released today by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

In its earlier reporting on the tragedy, WND confirmed, “One terrorist reportedly was shot to death by a student who was armed…”

Yup.  Now imagine if someone at Virginia Tech had been packing.  Guns in the hands of citizens save lives.  Criminals will always have their guns, why deny citizens theirs?

Guns

April 13th, 2008

I like guns.  They are a cornerstone of American liberty and a carefully protected and cherished right in this state.   I’ll add some meaningful content soon.
